Anastasia Kiratzi
Professor of Seismology

BSc Geology (1980), PhD Seismology (1984), post-doc Pennstate University, USA (1987). Prof Kiratzi has extensive professional and research work in Greece and abroad realized through a large number of national and EU projects. She has published more than 130 publications in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings. She has been involved in several scientific and administrative organizations and commissions. She is a member of the Editorial Board of a number of state seismological organizations as well as a member of the Editorial Board of Tectonophysics and Journal of Seismology. She has supervised MSc and PhD theses, and she has been an invited or key-note speaker in many conferences. She has been trained in universities mainly in UK and USA, but she has been a visiting scientist in a large number of institutes and universities outside Greece. She acts as a frequent reviewer for journals and EU projects

Professor Kantiranis has extensive work in Greece and abroad realized through a large number of national and EU projects. He has published more than 120 publications in peer-reviewed journal and conference proceedings. He has been involved in several scientific organizations and committees.  He has supervised a large number of MSc theses and coordinate/involve in a large number of national and EU projects. He acts as a frequent reviewer for journal and EU projects

kostopoulos  Dimitris Kostopoulos
Associate Professor

Responsible for  Structure and Evolution of Sedimentary Basins specialization of the Master Course

Research interests: Taxonomy, systematics, phylogeny, zoogeography, and bio chronology of Neogene - Quaternary Mammals of Greece and Eurasia with emphasis on Artiodactyla and especially in cattle.  Paleontological excavations in Greece (Axios, Khalkidhiki, Mygdonia, Kozani, Chios, Samos, Thessaly), Spain, Turkey. Study collections of modern and fossil Artiodactyla in London, New York, Paris, Poitiers, Münster, Lausanne, Vienna, Ankara, Izmir, Asenovgrad, Kiev, Odessa, Moldova, Barcelona.

Vasilis Marinos
Assis. Professor

Responsible for Engineering Geology and Environmental Hydrogeology specialization of the Master Course

Dr. Vassilis Marinos is an Assistant Professor of Engineering Geology at School of Geology, Faculty of Sciences, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and the President of the IAEG National Group of Greece.

He holds a Doctoral Degree from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), School of Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Division and an MSc with Distinction from Imperial College.

His area of expertise includes tunneling, landslide risk assessment, geotechnical classification, engineering-geological assessment of weak and complex rock masses and geotechnical databases.

He has published 65 papers in international journals and international conferences. His work has been cited 252 times according to Scopus citation database. His professional experience includes consulting services in Geohazards-Landslides risk assessment and microtunnel feasibility assessment along TAP pipeline, on engineering-geological topics for major engineering projects, on tunnel design for Egnatia Highway, S.A., on engineering-geological, geotechnical and hydrogeological issues in the extension lines of Athens Metro and the main line of Thessaloniki Metro. His research work has been included in the design specifications of Athens Metro S.A.

tsourlos 

Panagiotis Tsourlos
Professor of Applied Geophysics

Responsible for Applied Geophysics and Seismology specialization of the Master Course

 
Dr  Panos Tsourlos  holds a degree in Geology (1991) from the University of Thessaloniki, Greece and a PhD in Geophysics (1995)  from the University of York (U.K.). He worked as a geophysical consultant until 2000 when he joined the Department of Geophysics in the School of Geology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where he is currently a Professor of Applied Geophysics. His main research field is the numerical modeling and inversion of geoelectrical data. His research interest is in the application of geophysical techniques in near surface geophysical problems. Author of more than 60 ISI journal papers and of more than 70 journal and proceedings publications. Recipient of the University of York “K.M. Stott” prize for distinguished postgraduate research work, best paper awards in NSG 2008,2012.  In 2011 he was a Korean Federation of Science and Technology “Brainpool” program grandee. In 2013 he was an adjunct visiting Professor in Western Ontario University (Canada). Since 2011 he is an Associate Editor for Geolectrics in EAGE Near Surface Geophysics Journal and since 2016 an Associate editor for the Journal of Applied Geophysics.
